Getting to the Root of It

Getting to the Root of It

We’ve asked UCC advocates to help us unpack the complex justice issues that we’re working on. This month Sandy Sorensen, Director of the DC Office, highlights the significance of the upcoming election, and how we as UCC members can play a role.

Our Faith, Our Vote, Our Voice

Elections matter – local, state or national, in a presidential election year or not. The outcomes of elections influence the policies that impact our daily lives – be it health care, education, transportation, student loan debt, clean water, and much more.  Election Day 2019 is reminder that a pivotal presidential election year is right around the corner. The stakes are even higher for November 3, 2020. The challenges before our communities, our nation, and our world are immense. (Read more).

Save the Date for Ecumenical Advocacy Days – April 24-27, 2020

Around the world, the marginalized communities are experiencing the impacts of the climate crisis most profoundly. Women and children in these communities suffer the most along with all those who are disproportionately affected by hunger, poverty, and the structural history of colonialism and racism. EAD 2020 will focus on this intersection between climate change and economic injustice as together we gather to “Imagine, God’s Earth and People Restored!”  Join us at EAD 2020 and plan to join a UCC pre-event on Friday April 24th.

Justice in Action

Together in Hope: An Advent Action Calendar

During Advent, we anticipate and prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ. We can use this time of waiting and anticipation to take action around issues that are of concern to our global partners, particularly those in Southern Asia. The calendar will be available in mid-November at www.globalministries.org/southernasiainitiative.

Webinar: Worker Justice is Climate Justice – November 14

As the climate movement pushes our society toward becoming fossil free, how can we ensure that the transition happens in a way that is just and fair for workers? The next Creation Justice Webinar will feature two leaders of organizations addressing this question. The webinar will be on November 14th, but register even if you can’t make it, and we will send you a video. Sign-up now!
