Living Psalm 15 – Epiphany 4
Living Psalms Book
Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.
Living Psalm 15: 1-5
Fourth Sunday of Epiphany, Year A
Prayer
The thing about tents, God,
is that I cannot get them set up —
I just end up sitting there
in this hot mess of canvas and stakes
which is soon a rainy mess
and a muddy mess and a cold mess.
And I am better
thinking about uphill hikes,
than planning the right boots
the food I need,
and how to breathe
when I reach that elevation.
But you call me to a life
of one boot in front of another,
one word of truth
from the honesty in my center,
one silence
where I might speak
words of hurt or hate,
a careless joke or maybe-truth,
one risky stand,
one using my money — all of it —
in making a holy campsite
where all the world
may gather warm at the fire
and someone, someone
will teach me to pitch a tent.
