Living Psalm 29 – Baptism of Christ
Living Psalms Book
Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.
Living Psalm 29
Baptism of Christ January 12, 2020
Glory and power! Splendor and holiness!
Give it to God and God gives it right back.
You might be baptized by water—
sprinkled from a font
dunked in a bath
reborn in a bay—
any way, God’s voice is clear as storm-breaking waves
calling you beloved.
Glory and power! Splendor and holiness!
Give it to God and God gives it right back.
You might be baptized by fire—
left out of the bootstrap legacy
imprisoned by stigma or prejudice
battered by family “values”—
any way, God’s voice is clear as earth-shaking quakes
calling you beloved.
Glory and power! Splendor and holiness!
Give it to God and God gives it right back.
You might be baptized by Spirit—
mystic wilderness-wonderer
prophetic rabble-rouser
compassionate hand-holder—
any way, God’s voice is clear as prayer-meeting shouts
calling you beloved.
Glory and power! Splendor and holiness!
Give it to God and God gives it right back.
God, shake us up.
God, fire us up.
God, lift us up.
Beloved.
