Interfaith Day of Prayer – Prayer from Terri Hord Owens
Prayer from Terri Hord Owens
Interfaith Day of Prayer
May 7, 2020
Gracious and loving God,
Out of the depths of our souls, we cry to you, O God. We pray for this nation and its leaders, our religious leaders and each person of faith, that we all might recognize and address the human needs in our society during these unprecedented times. We are called to continue to resist the injustices and inequities around us, now so blatantly laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a follower of Jesus Christ, I pray that we might be courageous enough to imagine how we will be church in the new world unfolding before us. May we collectively ensure that the abundance that we have as a nation is enough for all of us to have what we need. May we choose to provide according to each one’s need out of that abundance. May love be lived out in bold and prophetic, kind and simple, warm and nurturing ways.
Be our vision, O God, as we walk into the future that is emerging. Give us hearts of courage to let go of things that trap us in familiar bondage, and liberate our spirits to reach out for what may be for some a freedom that feels foreign, but is life-giving to so many others who seek to know you. In that freedom, remove our fears, allow us to feel your presence as never before. Remind us that nothing in all creation can separate us from your love. May the world see more clearly the power of that love because of our own courage.
In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
