I have smelt the freshly cut grass, petrichor from the long awaited rain, and belching gas from the passing trucks…
From my front porch.
I have worked long hours, taken zoom calls, written important letters to the church…
From my front porch.
I have whiled away wasteful hours listening to classic rock and Mozart, catching the lastest Cardinal baseball game, or streaming my favorite series on Netflix…
From my front porch.
I have processed pain and grief, cried hard tears, and chiseled through gristly conundrums…
From my front porch.
I have had heart to heart conversations with friends in other counties and countries…
From my front porch.
I have sat motionless, staring as if into the abyss with no cognitive awareness of what was happening around me, blissfully ignorant of my surroundings…
From my front porch.
I have prayed earnestly for important things like peace and healing, small things like a good night’s sleep, and all manner and matter of things in between…
From my front porch.
I listen to train whistles, jet engines, and the bone-rattling hum of helicopters flying too low…
From my front porch.
I hear the children play – the bounce of the basketball, the cry of ‘you’re it!’, the pleading to mom for money for the ice cream truck, the pounce of trampouline and the splash of pool water…
From my front porch.
Days have begun and they have ended…
From my front porch.
Children are seen walking to school, laborers to work, and neighbors to the store…
From my front porch.
Halloween costumes, Christmas lights, Black Lives Matter Signs, and pride flags have all been seen….
On my front porch.
I work and I read and I watch and I play and I think and I laugh and I write and I listen and I laze and I neighbor and I dream and I hope….
From my front porch. Sometimes, it’s the simple joys that get us through each day on this, our journey Into the Mystic.
