Living Psalm 93—Realm of Christ B
God is clothed in Shúkà, Huipil, Sari,
in Agbada, Kilt,
in Kebaya and Sarong,
in hospital johnny and prom dress,
in an inmate’s orange jumpsuit.
God is clothed with clouds,
dust of the desert
and mud of the swamp,
with a long belt of highway
and a halo of contrail.
God’s throne is the toddler’s owl seat,
a pew, no bishop’s cathedra,
the camp chair in the woods,
the folding chair
in any twelve-step meeting.
Our floods have lifted up a voice.
Our warm oceans, wild storms.
sound of forests on fire –
these, too, have a voice.
It is not God’s voice.
The most holy decree is earth itself,
held up by one standing knee-deep
in the ocean around Tuvalu,
and treasured by One
dressed in all things,
who remains always seated
in everyone’s house,
never marching to war or progress.
