Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.

God, who tents with you on the peak?

The one with pitons and crampons of justice,
who will rappel down in rescue
for kindness’ sake.

A trekker with old-fashioned compass
looking like Bible or Tanakh,
Quran, Tipitaka, Vedas, Agamas,
for those lost with only a cell phone,

a talker who also Signs,
and speaks the language of silence,

a back-packer who carries
love, trail mix, and sunscreen to share.

A seasoned hiker who does not mock
an ambitious eight-year-old,
who does not damage creation,
or take another’s campsite.

And, also, those
who are activists against fracking,
against mountain-top removal mining,
but who serve city youth
that come to climb
and build their self-worth,
even when it slows the journey.

They do not try to own mountains,
or travel without permission
on sovereign tribal holy land,

but they find on the peakstent
a tent for shelter
and your perspective on the holy.
