General Synod schedule, guides available now with app

A new app will help to keep the details of General Synod 34 at your fingertips.

The General Synod app is hosted by Cvent and offers access to the complete, detailed schedule and agenda of the five-day event in Indianapolis. It also includes the maps of the convention center and exhibit hall to help people navigate the space.

“The Synod app will be your go-to source for all things related to Synod,” said Charles Jefferson, Jr., UCC director of marketing and communications. “We’re encouraging everyone to download the app in advance of Synod to get the best experience.”

The app is available now and can be downloaded to your mobile device with the following steps:

  • Download the “Cvent Events” mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The mobile application is only available for Android and iOS devices.
  • Once it’s downloaded, open the Cvent app and search for General Synod, and “The 34th General Synod of the United Church of Christ” should appear.
  • Tap the “download” icon.
  • Enter your first and last name, and the email address that you used to register for General Synod.
  • Check your email inbox for an email with your six-digit verification code. This automated email will come from Shameerah Lemon, UCC associate for hospitality ministries and event services. Type or paste the code into the General Synod app and tap the “Next” button.

Once you complete these steps and enter the Synod app, use the icons along the bottom to navigate through the resources available.

Customization and features

The app offers a place for users to build their own schedule and receive announcements during the event. Optional dining events that an attendee has registered for should show up in the “My Schedule” section of the app.

Additional content and functionality is being added leading up to Synod. A General Synod 34 quick reference guide and tour videos are coming Wednesday, June 28.

The “Announcements” feature will play a significant role in notifying delegates when each of the 14 committees submit an updated draft of a resolution. Because of this, the UCC planning team encourages users to enable push notifications for the app.

A QR code will also be available in-person at Synod registration for those who want to get the app when they arrive in Indianapolis. These can be used by opening your phone’s camera and scanning the code, which will guide you to download the Cvent app.

But, for anyone who wants to get a head-start on connecting and planning out their Synod experience, the app is available now.

The United Church of Christ’s 34th General Synod will be held June 30-July 4 in Indianapolis. For programming, information and more, visit generalsynod.org.
