Opening Worship
Welcome to General Synod!
Join us for Opening Worship with Jamar Doyle, President and CEO of the UCC Council for Health and Human Service Ministries. A native of Cleveland, Doyle believes in giving back to the community that cultivated him. He grew up in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and believes faith and spirituality have always been central to his identity as a gay African-American male. Doyle says his leadership style is how he approaches a lot of things in life, “leading through love.”

Today’s Offering
Today’s offering will support the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and its work with Indigenous Peoples across the world.
The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) is committed to developing the right relationships with Indigenous Peoples (IP) by initiating a study towards seeking repentance of wrongdoing, an apology, and a process leading to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, including liturgical resources for use in churches and to work to theologically undermine doctrines of discovery.
In its advocacy work, the WCRC is committed to working with the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous People as a framework for developing relationships with Indigenous Peoples and to, advocating with their governments to adopt the Declaration, and helping human rights agencies that support Indigenous Peoples as they struggle for their rights.
The WCRC is presently involved in a three-year study process that will:
- Critically analyze unjust structures in the global context and its implications for Indigenous People.
- Engage in decolonizing liturgy and theology.
- Search towards a transformative theological education relevant to the Indigenous Peoples’ context.
