Living Psalm 105:1-6, 23-26, 45B Pentecost 14A
Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.
From a famine they fled into Egypt.
Who ever thought they would grow so strong?
When their vigor was curbed with whips and with shackles,
you summoned a Moses. You summoned them home.
Where is the Moses for the Guatemalan woman
who has fled from the gunfire that shatters the night?
Where is the Aaron for the child of Ukraine
who cries for a home he will not see again?
When will Miriam dance for the peace of Myanmar,
or Deborah sing Ethiopia’s rest?
When will Wisdom affirm that her rule is acknowledged?
When will God declare justice has come?
Send us a Moses. Send us an Aaron.
May the ash of Lahaina rise up into homes.
When the earth’s tremors still, and the floods recede,
we will whirl with Miriam to Deborah’s song.
