General Synod Nominating Committee Class of 2034 nominations are now open

The United Church of Christ is now seeking nominations for the General Synod Committee Class of 2034 from conference ministers.

Conferences are eligible and urged to submit applicants for selection to the General Synod Nominating Committee. The Bylaws provide for each Conference not currently represented on the nominating committee to submit the name of an authorized minister, or person with ordained ministerial standing, as well as the name of a layperson for possible membership as an At-Large member.

The General Synod Nominating Committee meets virtually or in person once every three years over a Friday-Saturday period in January prior to Synod. Members will also be asked to participate in 2-3 conference calls each General Synod term and are invited to attend the Nominating Committee Hearing at General Synod.

The Committee is responsible for screening and recommending membership for each individual who will eventually sit on the United Church of Christ Board. Although not excessively demanding time-wise, the Committee’s work is vital to maintaining a diverse and quality membership at the national level.

Members of this nominating committee serve a 9-year term. The UCC reminds those doing the nominating for the committee that diversity is important, as we are a multi-racial and multi-cultural church.

The deadline for nominations is November 29, 2024.

The requirements and application can be found here.

The General Synod nominating committee is also looking for applicants to the UCC Board, and Synod Leadership. You can read about those positions here.
