UCC officers offer prayer in response to Trump guilty verdict
The United Church of Christ General Minister and President Karen Georgia Thompson and acting Associate General Minister Shari Prestemon have issued a prayer in response to the conviction of former President Donald Trump of 34 felony counts in a New York courtroom on May 30.

The prayer reads, “Dear Lord, in your mercy, hear the prayers of your people, as we pray on behalf of this nation. On this historic day when a former President has been found guilty by a jury, we are sobered by so much it signifies. We are mindful of a range of emotions it elicits among us, and pray for peace in us and among us, O God. We confess our deep divisions, and ask forgiveness for the ways we have contributed to the chasm which now confronts us.
Send your Spirit in all its power to hold us together in these precarious moments and guide us toward a collective healing. Strengthen our resolve to honor Jesus’ prayer that we all may be one. Lead us toward humble and honest reflection, that our wisdom and faith might be strengthened for the journey before us. Let compassion and care be our watchwords as we continue to pray and labor for peace and a just world for all.
With trust in your abiding presence and unending grace, we lift our prayers to you Holy One. Amen.”
