UCC Advocacy Resources for the First 100 Days

“For Such a Time As This….”
United Church of Christ:
Responses to the First 100 Days
The UCC Office of Public Policy and Advocacy in Washington D.C. is dedicated to raising the prophetic voice of the United Church of Christ on Capitol Hill.
As part of this work, we are dedicated to equipping our faith community with the tools they need to stay informed and take action during the first 100 days of the new administration. Since taking office, President Trump and his administration have worked to implement his stated policy goals as put forth in Project 2025 using methods that defy the law and the constitution. Below, you will find a log of the UCC Washington DC Office’s response to those actions alongside the National Setting and partner organizations.
Whether you’re mobilizing for immigration reform, preserving lifesaving foreign aid, or climate action, we hope these resources offer faithful grounding and actionable steps to continue the United Church of Christ’s mission to build a just world for all.

“[M]ost of Gaza’s 2.3 million Palestinians are suffering food insecurity and almost all are displaced, some multiple times; homes and communities are destroyed; and while a ceasefire is being implemented, it is fragile… The human rights and rights under international humanitarian law of the Palestinian people of Gaza to life, to homes, to dignity, to self-determination, and to return must all be ensured.”

📰 27 religious groups, including UCC Conference, file lawsuit challenging ICE action in churches
“The Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ is among more than two dozen religious groups suing the Department of Homeland Security in response to a policy change that offers greater leeway for immigration enforcement in ‘sensitive locations,’ including houses of worship…. ‘

Week Three (February 2nd-8th)
📰 Crisis Control: An International Conflict Roundup
“The United Church of Christ and our Global Ministries accompanies all our partners through war, hardship, and celebrations. We pray with them, grieve with them, sit with them, listen to their stories, and celebrate joyful occasions. They show us every day how resilient we can be as people of faith. Our partnership demands that we use our voice to advocate for an end to these conflicts as well as restore foreign aid that helps address the root causes of violence.”
⚡️ Take Action: Protect Lifesaving Foreign Aid
Urge your members of Congress to oppose the foreign aid freeze and end of asylum and refugee resettlement programs immediately.
📰 Faith leaders, members of Congress and others speak out against Executive Order suspending refugee resettlement in Washington, D.C.
“As climate change, wars, civil unrest, poverty, and persecution that the U.S. has had a hand in create more and more refugees, we cannot as a nation turn our back on anyone seeking life, liberty, and freedom. Thousands of refugees are now in limbo, including those who assisted U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan and have already been cleared to come to the U.S. as refugees. Many who have waited years to arrive in the U.S. have now been denied entry at the last second, putting them in further danger. Let us live up to our highest ideals as a nation and together build a more just and peaceful future.”

Pre-Inauguration
📝 Countering Project 2025 With Love: A UCC Response
Project 2025 is a compilation of policy proposals and presidential transition project launched by the Heritage Foundation. The document outlines an extreme set of policies that, if implemented, would threaten basic freedoms, punish the most vulnerable, and dismantle not only the structure of our federal government but attack deeply held values of religious freedom and the separation of church and state.
Project 2025 stands in direct opposition to the United Church of Christ’s values and work. We know many have likely seen summaries of this Project, so now it’s time to dive deeper and break down how the UCC’s closely held values of extravagant welcome, abundance, and justice for all compare with the values of Project 2025.
📞 Take Action: Call on Congress to Oppose S.5 (Laken Riley Act)
Congress is considering a bill that will criminalize immigrants and apply “mandatory detention” for any undocumented person arrested or charged (rather than convicted) of a non-violent theft-related offense, without opportunity to even request release on bond. Raise you voice and urge your representatives to oppose this bill.
📞 Take Action: Call on Congress to Protect Trans Youth in Sports
Congress is considering a bill which would effectively ban transgender women and girls from competing on women’s athletic teams that receive federal funds. This discriminatory proposal seeks to exclude transgender, nonbinary, and intersex people from athletics programs in schools. Urge you representatives to oppose this bill.
⚡️ Take Action: Sign the “For Such a Time As This” Petition
“We are called today to confront our fierce urgency of now. Our political landscape is shifting, creating greater space and opportunity for what Rev. King considered the giant triplets of evil—racism, materialism, and militarism. Yet, as loving communities of faith, our mission and work remain unchanged.”
