OGHS Hosts Trip to Highlight Middle East Work
Join us in the Middle East. We will visit Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and Jerusalem
When: September 25 – October 7, 2016
This Middle East Educational Delegation is being organized and is almost filled to capacity. Our travels will focus on the work being done in the Middle East through One Great Hour of Sharing (United Church of Christ) and the Week of Compassion (Christian Church Disciples of Christ) offerings.
The delegation will be led by Dr. Peter Makari, the area executive for the Middle East and Europe office of Global Ministries (UCC and DOC). Through December 2016 Global Ministries will place emphasis on the Middle East through highlighting aspects of mission and partnership through webinars, social media, educational resources and travel.
On the September-October 2016 journey, you will encounter a range of denominational partners and hear first-hand accounts of the issues they face, and the context in which they face them. You will see all the beauty of the land, and learn of the circumstances that make the Middle East what it is today.
You will have opportunities to meet refugees and hear of their stories, and learn how our church is making a difference in the lives of people who have hopes of a better future for themselves, their children and their neighbors. Our assistance provides health, education, disaster relief, work programs and other initiatives to improve the lives and livelihoods of the community.
This trip will change your life. Being in the Middle East, the focus of much of the Bible, may enhance the way you read the Bible. It certainly will give you a new or renewed perspective on the history and culture. In just a short period of time, the history will come alive as you see, hear, smell and taste all the region has to offer.
While this is truly an educational trip, we will also visit some of the tourist attractions such as the pyramids in Egypt and the Mount of Olives and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
To join the delegation:
A $1,500 deposit holds your place. Participants will be selected on a first come (or first to pay), first served basis.
