Jean Avison (Elected Assistant Moderator) is a member of Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ in Beaverton, Oregon. At Bethel, Jean serves on the Diaconate and Investment committees and is chair of the Nominations committee. Other past local church roles have included; Moderator, Treasurer, and chair of the Trustees. In the Central Pacific Conference, Jean serves as Co-chair of the Committee on Ministry and has formerly served as Moderator and Treasurer. In the National Setting of the UCC, Jean has served on the Executive Council (a predecessor body of the UCC Board), Chair of the Committee on Disposition for 2 General Synods, and as chair of the UCC General Synod Nominating Committee. In addition, Jean also served as a recorder at GS 30 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Jean brings to the position her passion for the United Church of Christ, as well as experience and skills in education, group facilitation, strategic planning, organizational development, process improvement and project management.
Jean is retired, after 35 years as a corporate training manager. She and her husband, David, have a blended family of four grown children, eight grandchildren and one very spoiled Golden Retriever, Gracie (never place a period where God has placed a comma).
