Sample Kairos Moment for March
In January 2020, the UCC’s Council for Climate Justice issued a Kairos Call to Action which called upon churches to undertake an all-out mobilization to address the twin crises climate and inequality. As part of this effort, churches can incorporate into worship on a regular basis a Kairos Moment, a moment for sharing an action that can be taken. A collection of sample moments are available here. Check out the latest Kairos Moment by the Rev. Jeffrey Spencer:
In the seven years since Paris climate accords, the four biggest U.S. banks (Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America) have lent well over a trillion dollars to companies that make the climate crisis worse by expanding fossil fuel projects and cutting down rainforests.
A national organization called Third Act is supporting small groups all over the county to take action locally. For me, it’s a pledge to cut up my Chase Credit Card and move my business to greener pastures. I plan to join a local action event outside of Wells Fargo Bank on March 21 – the first day of spring.
