Living Psalm 114 Pentecost 16A
Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.
Psalm 114
God’s Wonders Destroyed
Written by Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia A. Thompson
The sea waters rise, the oceans overflow their banks
the people living near the waters flee their homes,
ice sheets and glaciers melting, water invading the land,
the seas looked back, too late, they cannot turn around.
The beauty of the mountains are stripped away
trees harvested as the towering height of soil is reduced
land mined for valuable natural resources
to fuel capitalism and greed
the mountains no longer skip
in the rubble, no grass is left for the animals to feed.
The earth trembles as disasters persist
deforestation creating landslides
dryness appearing where rivers once flowed
mountains disappear from their place in the sky.
Where is God present in and around us
when we cease to care about the life of all God created?
