Living Psalm 145—Advent 3
Psalm 145:1-5,17-21 for Advent 3
I will extol you, God and Monarch,
and pray for the Kurds and the people of Syria.
Every day I will bless you,
and call out your name against the culture of guns.
Great is God, and greatly to be praised;
but devastations of climate change are unsearchable.
One generation shall laud your works to another,
if they have an earth to sustain their words.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I meditate …
and meditate too on how racism
undoes the very fabric of creation.
God is just in so many ways,
but kindness is forgotten across our southern border.
The God is near to all who call,
in the fires of California God can be found.
God fulfils the desire of all who fear God;
our only hope is that God hears our cries
because our bodies are made of fear.
God watches over the lovers and hope-givers,
but weeps for the wicked who destroy
others and themselves.
My mouth will praise God verse by verse
opening line by opening line —
but my prayer will call
for new blessings of justice
if we ever hope to shape a for-ever.
