Living Psalm 4
Living Psalms Book
Answer us, O God when we call.
Answer us when we question,
or don’t know what our question is.
Answer us when we hurt,
or see the hurt of others,
and have no idea how to help.
Answer us when we need you–
but our call is something like tears,
or self-harming or feeding an addiction,
closing ourselves off from others,
or not being able to get out of bed …
or not having a bed,
We forget you, or we are so angry,
because we think you know our pain
but do not love us.
You give us room when we are in distress,
but know we don’t want to feel alone.
We regret our twisting ways,
that have followed offers of help
that do not heal,
rather than the offers from others
whom you have sent to help us.
We put our trust in you.
We put all that disturbs us
into the shining from your face,
and find what is good.
Because of you, we love with gladness,
we share all we have with others,
and lie down to sleep in peace,
trusting that you
answer the call of your every sleeping child.
