Living Psalm 86:1-10, 16-17 – Pentecost 4A
Living Psalms Book
Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.
By Reverend Justo González, II
1Escúchame, Listen to me, Christ, and answer me. I am tired of people not seeing me, not responding. I may not be of means; but I am created in your rainbow image. I need many things at times but mostly I need to feel love, and a warm embrace of all of who I am. Embrace me Creator of us all.
2 Bless my fabulous life, I am devoted to you, maker of my soul. I trust in You because you have seen me like no other; you know the pain, hurt and celebration that I carry. You are my God; and continue to say that the image of you that I am, is good. Be gracious to me, Holy One, and sprinkle your fairy dust upon me. With you I am real, no facades required. I cry to you in joy when I do not feel seen as your Trans and Non-Binary sibling. How long will it take for everyone to see me as you created me to be?
3Delight in me as I shine forth love and light upon my siblings, and they shine your grace and love back. I lift up to you, my LGBTQIA+ soul.
4For you are good, loving caring and smile grace upon me. Your steadfast love is with all peoples. I thank you for rejoicing with this community of love and acceptance that represents you with affirming actions and deeds.
5You love all who call upon you and you know that we call with dance, drag shows, and laughter.
6-7Other people call you other ways, but our ways are just fabulous. No point to even debate that. Listen to the calls from Latinx Nights, Afro-centric rap and gospel, and chants that call forth the Spirits among us in unity and love. You answer our lesbian sisters, our Trans-siblings, our intersex, bears, leather community and gay brothers. You always listen and respond the call of your people.
8-9 God we are overwhelmed by Your acknowledgment and affirmation that we are created in your image and that our lives bring joy in heaven.
10 Wonderous are your ways.
16 -17 Continue to show us your favor so that those who speak, teach, and demonstrate hate in Your name may be put to shame. Because you, Holy One of Israel, have created us, embrace us and smile when you see your LGBTQIA+ siblings.
