Living Psalm 122—Thompson
Let Us Go
(Psalm 122)
“Let us go!”
into the house of the Lord
into the sanctuary to praise
into the presence of God we know
into the temple to pray.
our feet are willing
although our hearts are afraid
we desire to give thanks
but our city is bound and oppressed
no peace is present within our gates.
we go up to the Holy Place
our voices raised in thanksgiving
above the din of social unrest
across the lines of our militarized cities
traversing these occupied lands and empty faces.
I should be thrilled
my feet are standing
glad for the relatives and friends still alive
we give thanks for God ever present with us
we want peace to prosper, to live in safety with security.
Let us go to the house of the Lord
bringing with us the overthrown seats of power
we pray there for our peace
seeking the common good for all
And then my soul was glad.
